Dolby Cat. No. 701 Digital Soundhead

Cat-701

The Dolby Cat. No. 701 Digital Soundhead is the latest reader for Dolby Digital soundtracks. With streamlined optics and an integral power supply for increased cost-effectiveness and easier installation, the Cat. No. 701 converts most current and many older cinema projectors for state-of-the-art Dolby Digital playback.
The Cat. No. 701 uses the latest in LED and CCD technologies to read the digital optical track on 35 mm Dolby Digital release prints. The resulting signal is fed to the cinema's Dolby Digital processor for decoding into 5.1 channels (L, C, R, Ls, Rs, Sw).
Crafted by Dolby Laboratories to ensure both high performance and long-term durability, the Cat. No. 701 is truly a reference standard for Dolby Digital soundtrack reproduction. The Cat. No. 701 bolts directly to many cinema projectors with adapter plates available from Dolby Laboratories for various models. Installation is virtually "plug and play" as no optical or other special alignment procedure is required.
To ensure smooth film motion, the Cat. No. 701 features an easily threaded Davis tight loop configuration with twin tension arms for superior film guidance. Threading non-Dolby Digital prints to bypass the Dolby Digital reader is equally straightforward, placing no extra burden on the projectionist.< BR>
About Dolby Digital

Introduced in 1992, Dolby Digital immediately fulfilled all the film industry's requirements for digital cinema sound. With its on-film soundtrack placement, compatible print format, discrete 5.1 channels, ease of print manufacture, and uncomplicated cinema installation, Dolby Digital has become the most widely used digital format in the world, with more equipped cinemas and more titles than any other digital format.
Over the years, Dolby Digital has continued to evolve, providing producers, exhibitors, and audiences with ongoing state-of-the art technology and performance. Cinema products such as Dolby's digital sound processors and soundheads have been regularly updated. And the Dolby Digital coding process itself has been refined, with software updates delivered directly and automatically to the Dolby Digital processors in theatres by means of release prints themselves.
The latest development is Dolby Digital-Surround EX, a joint develop-ment with Lucasfilm THX that provides a third, center surround channel, offering mixers significant new creative oppor-tunities. Prints taking advantage of this new development can be played in any Dolby Digital theatre, whether or not it has been equipped with the Dolby SA10 adapter required to reproduce the third surround channel.
